Hi Ray

You're right about competition, especially government funded sites (anoying). But getting good traffic in 1-2 years is still possible.

One way to succeed is to go after long tail searches to start with - although this involves a lot of work.

Interesting copy about things in your area which other people aren't writing about will attract local links -> page rank etc.

You'll also get returning local readers who bookmark your site.

Once your site has traction then you can move the battle into more competitive areas like hotels etc.

I'm finding with my site that I rank exceptionally well for most "West Sussex" + keyword combinations that I have written about.

It helps to enjoy what you are writing about though!

Hi Leo,

Welcome to Domaining.org.uk. ManchesterWide.com is not old - it started life in its present form in January 2009. I have written all the articles myself although I am seriously considering outsourcing this side of things to freelancers.

If you are interested in geo-domains this article may also be of interest...........

I would be interested to know how manchesterwide.com does. I am looking looking to develop some smaller pure .org .net UK Geos in the near future with wordpress or Joomla. Did you write the articles yourself? How old is the site?

Cheers
