Hi Simon, Manchester is a big city and sites like Pride of Manchester and Manchester Confidential claim substantial levels of traffic. I am aiming for a more modest 10,000 per month which I hope to achieve by December 2009.

So do you have a set traffic target for a city as big as Manchester? Do you know what your rivals get?
I know that on smaller towns maybe 50 a day is enough....

Hi Simon, Yes I'm really enthusiastic about ManchesterWide.com. Its really coming along nicely. I'm not ready to look for private advertising yet as my traffic is less than I'd like. However, the site is relatively new, and the traffic is increasing all the time - so it won't be long now....... :)
Thanks for the RSS feed suggestion - will look into it.

Nice article Ray - are you still as enthusiastic about ManchesterWide.com? Are you fidning Advertisers approachable in the recession?
A thought - have you considered an RSS feed for your jobs page, could be a way of pulling in visitors.

I can certainly agree that pure geo-domains, place names with a .com extension, have a fantastic advantage over any other type of name.

When I hear Geo-Domains I automatically think of what is now considered ‘pure geo-domains’ not bits and pieces hanging off the pure geo-domain.

I understand the ‘geo-domains’ have some value however its the pure geo-domains that offer instant recall, instant branding and a sense of community to base the business on.

A geo-domain with extension can amount to thousands of hanger ons with a lot of competition originating from the pure geo-domain. An example being NewYorkHomes.com, NewYorkProperty.com, NewYorkBricksandMorter.com etc etc but there will always only be 1 NewYork.com. And if you still feel you need the extensions you can create as many sub domains as you like from the original pure geo-domain for free. An example being Property.NewYork.com, RealEstate.NewYork.com and its all held together by the pure Geo-Domain NewYork.com.

Pure Geo-Domains is where the value lies. I have both in my small portfolio of about 100 names and am now considering to lease off the pure domains to mostly real estate companies. Being in real estate myself, a pure geo-domain seeds itself on Google and normally rises to the top of the results based purely upon relevancy. So long as the location sought is inserted into the search it will almost always produce great results.

Remember, 80% of all business is local.

Happy Days..
