Is domain backwording the next big thing. I’m not so sure. But Rudy Hernandez from Logistik Labs thinks differently, and he might be right.

Rudy has identified an emerging trend of companies registering domain names spelt backwards and has called it ‘backwarding’. So Credit.com becomes ‘tiderC.com’, Baseball.com becomes ‘llabesaB.com’ and so on.

I struggled to find a major company who has followed this strategy (owns the revered version of its own domain name, for example), although I did not spend a lot of time on it. However, it is interesting that Barack Obama.com spelt backwards takes you to John McCains campaign website ( http://www.amabokcarab.com ).

Backwording received a luke warm reception when it was discussed on the Namepros.com discussion forum. As far as I can tell domainers are the biggest buyers of backward domains – at the moment! Still I think Rudy makes a good case so read what he says on his blog here and his follow up article on backwording is also very interesting.

If you are interested in buying your own backward domain names there is a useful name ‘reversal’ tool on Backwording.com
